Research on Medical Practices (ROMP) presents several ethical issues that have not been studied completely.
Currently, Research on Medical Practices is considered similar to medical research that develops new treatments in that it requires special oversight that makes sure:
- Risks to patients are reasonable in relation to the anticipated benefits.
- Patients have given appropriate informed consent.
Policy makers and regulators of medical research don’t always know how to interpret the risks of Research on Medical Practices compared to the medical practices themselves. Also, no one is sure how best to get informed consent for this type of research.
Our study is an attempt to find out how the public and professionals who review research feel about the ethical issues related to Research on Medical Practices. Learn more about what we are doing in our study details.
