22 Feb The EVO Study
EVO is a 12-month healthy lifestyle and weight loss research study taking place in the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University. Researchers are looking to determine the best strategy for weight loss and healthy living. Participants enroll in the 12-month, remotely-delivered study and receive a free 6-month health program.
Participants receive the following:
A free 24-week health program, delivered remotely
Personalized diet, physical activity, and weight loss goals
Equipment to use during study sessions
One-on-one sessions with a trained Health Promotionist during the first 6 months
Behavioral weight loss strategies are offered through online lessons or a study booklet

Participant Eligibility
Inclusion Criteria:
Obese or overweight (BMI 30-45)
Weight stable (hasn’t gained/lost 25 pounds in the last 3 months)
Own a Smartphone and be willing to install our Smartphone app
Willing to conduct video conference calls with study staff
Exclusion Criteria:
Enrolled in any formal weight loss program
Taking anti-obesity medications
Not taking medications that may cause weight gain
Unstable medical conditions
Diabetes requiring insulin supplementation
Crohn’s Disease
Diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea requiring intervention (i.e., CPAP)
Assistive devices for mobility
Hospitalizations for a psychiatric disorder within the past 5 years
Cardiovascular disease symptoms while performing moderate intensity exercise
Pregnancy, trying to get pregnant, or lactating.
Bulimia or binge eating disorder
Reports of active suicidal ideation
Current substance abuse or dependence besides nicotine dependence
