REMAIN-1 Weight Loss Study

REMAIN-1 Weight Loss Study

The purpose of this study is to learn if a one-time, minimally-invasive endoscopic procedure called DMR (duodenal mucosal resurfacing) can help people maintain weight loss after stopping Zepbound, a prescription GLP-1 drug for weight loss.

All participants on this study will receive free Zepbound (an FDA-approved GLP-1 drug for weight loss) provided by the study. Participants will inject this drug at home once a week until they have reached 15% body weight loss since starting on the study (around 4-6 months). During this time, participants will come into the clinic once a month for a check in visit, labs, and counseling with a registered dietician to optimize their diet for weight loss.

After they’ve reached the weight loss target, participants will stop Zepbound and be chosen at random to receive either the DMR procedure or a sham (placebo) procedure performed by a GI doctor. After the procedure, participants will come into the clinic for 5 visits over the course of a year to track their progress and receive counseling from the study dietician.

All visits take place at the UW Diabetes Institute in South Lake Union, except for the DMR procedure, which is performed at Harborview Medical Center.

Participants will receive up to $3,100 in compensation for completing all visits.
