18 Oct Sibling Language Development Study
Calling all caregivers with little ones! We are currently recruiting infants under six months to co-enroll with a biological older sibling (3 years or older) in the Sibling Language Development study.
The goal of the study is to investigate the underlying neural mechanisms in infants at low risk and infants at high risk for developmental language disorder (DLD). DLD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders and can impact children’s ability to speak, read, write, and listen. Our research will support early identification and intervention strategies for DLD.
Participating will involve one visit with the research team’s licensed speech-language pathologist for your older child, and three additional visits to measure your infant’s neural processing of speech non-invasively at 6, 12, and 14 months of age. Caregivers will be provided a free report of their older child’s language skills and compensated up to $250 in universal gift cards for their time. Infants and siblings will be awarded small prizes after each appointment. We also reimburse for parking and tolls.
Participant Eligibility
– English learning infants between 3-6 months old with at least one older sibling (3 years or older)
– Older sibling(s) who receive or have received services for their language development (e.g. diagnosed with a language delay) AND/OR older siblings who have typical language development
– No immediate family history of ASD or hearing loss
