Group Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

Group Therapy for Anxiety and Depression

This study tests the efficacy of a group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy designed to be “transdiagnostic” (applying to a wide range of anxiety and mood problems). This treatment has been shown to reduce negative emotions such as anxiety and depression in an individual therapy format. We are also examining personal strengths influence treatment.

What will the study provide to participants?
*In-depth diagnostic evaluation and opportunities to learn to monitor emotions.
*Free, psychotherapy for 12 weeks, in which participants learn:
-To understand how emotions (including anxiety and depression) work.
-To become more aware of their own emotions, physical sensations, thoughts, and behaviors.
-To tolerate and mindfully observe emotions.
-To change negative thought patterns.
-To pursue valued goals rather than cope by emotion-driven behaviors or avoidance.
-To face fears directly until they are manageable.
