05 Jul New REDCap Online Designer Improvements
ITHS is pleased to announce new changes to the REDCap Online Designer that increase usability and efficiency across the board. We have updated the REDCap Online Designer with new action buttons and a new “Quick Modify” feature.
Below, we’ve created an easy-to-use breakdown that explains the changes and the differences in functionality between the old and new versions.
The pencil icon and green arrows have a new look but still function the same way to edit fields and create branching logic. The black and white copy button functions as before, creating a duplicate of a field and naming it with a placeholder (name_2). Be sure to rename the new field if necessary.
The blue multi-directional action button also works very similarly to move fields within your instruments. You can click once to choose the location where you want to move the field. or click and hold to drag the field to a new location indicated by a blue line.
Click on the trash can instead of a red X to delete a field. The new brackets action button allows you to quickly enter a new custom survey question number without editing the field.
Instructions for using the new “Quick Modify” Feature appears in the sidebar of the updated REDCap Online Designer. This new feature allows you too quickly copy, move or delete multiple fields at the same time. You can select whether you want to show the “Quick Modify” feature to the side of the field you are editing or overlaid onto the field editing window.
Check the box at the top right of the field or fields you want to edit or press CTRL-G or CMD-G and the “Quick Modify” feature will pop up. You also have the option of using the Go to field link to quickly move to the field you want to edit. If multiple fields are selected, the chosen command will affect each selected field.
You can quickly select multiple fields and update them all at the same time with the chosen action including:
- Copying
- Moving
- Deleting
- Tagging as required
- Tagging as identifier
- Updating branching logic
- Field alignment
- Grouping a set of existing fields as a Matrix
- Edit or add Action Tags
- Editing field choices for similar choice fields
Questions about these changes and any other REDCap issues can be directed to the REDCap admin team at redcaphelp@uw.edu.
