ITHS Biostatistician to Present at Society for Clinical Trials Annual Meeting

Dr. Katherine Odem-Davis, a Biostatistician and Research Scientist at the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (ITHS), has been invited to present at the Society for Clinical Trials 35th Annual Meeting in Philadelphia on May 20, 2014. She will be part of a three-person panel that will be addressing the topic of recent design issues for non-inferiority trials, which are trials that are intended to demonstrate that the effect of a new treatment is equivalent to the standard treatment.

Dr. Odem-Davis’ portion of the presentation will address how to adjust for unknown bias in non-inferiority clinical trials. She will describe two commonly used non-inferiority margin methods that adjust for bias and an alternative “bias-adjusted” margin. She will compare margins with respect to asymptotic estimates of non-inferiority hypothesis test rejection rates under various assumptions motivated by real-world examples.

Her presentation builds off the article, “Adjusting for Unknown Bias in Noninferiority Clinical Trials,” that she co-authored with Dr. Thomas R. Fleming in Statistics in Biopharmaceutical Research in September, 2013. An abstract for the article can be found by clicking here.
