Over the last decade, Dr. Sean Mooney has played a pivotal role as the Director of Informatics for the Institute of Translational Health Sciences, spearheading numerous initiatives aimed at bridging the gap between research and clinical practice. He has been instrumental in forging partnerships between academia, pharmaceutical companies, and startups, leading to innovative approaches for drug discovery and personalized medicine. His efforts have been key to fostering interdisciplinary collaborations and facilitating the translation of scientific discoveries into tangible improvements in patient care.
As Dr. Mooney embarks on a new chapter, his appointment as the Director of the Center for Information Technology at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is a testament to his remarkable contributions to the field. In his new role at the NIH, Mooney will oversee a supercomputer and network that allows researchers to conduct large-scale data analyses. The Center for Information Technology collaborates with the NIH community in computational bioscience, engineering, informatics and statistics to help make biomedical discoveries. He’s expected to join the NIH in March 2024.
Building upon his experiences within ITHS and the Seattle health research community, Mooney is poised to lead initiatives that will drive advancements in biomedical informatics on a national scale.
