Description

This final session of the Team Science Seminar Series 2023-2024 is designed to help participants understand the concept of microaggressions, their potential impact on communication and inclusivity, and to explore ways to address them in future encounters.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Define bias and microaggressions
  2. Identify examples of microaggressions expressed in interactions
  3. Navigate mircroaggressions in conversation

About the Speaker

A passionate advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and language access in healthcare and research, Kelly Martin devotes her time to EDI education, training facilitation, and language access improvement. Through her consultant firm, Envision|Impact, she currently collaborates with Seattle Children’s Research Institute and the Institute of Translational Health Sciences on EDI training development and training facilitation. She has served as a contributor to the Integrating Special Populations Program with the Seattle Children’s Research Institute since 2016. In her spare time, Kelly explores her creative side through acrylic fluid painting, music, and writing.
