25 Oct Nora Disis Celebrated as Inventor of the Year
ITHS founding Prinicipal Investigator Nora Disis, MD, was recently honored as the UW School of Medicine Inventor of the Year for her work developing cancer vaccines. Among her many other academic and advisory roles, Dr. Disis serves as director of the Cancer Vaccine Insitute and cofounder of CoMotion-supported spinoff EpiThany. She studies the development of vaccine and cellular therapy for the treatment and prevention of common malignancies and holds several patents in cancer immunotherapy and diagnostics.
Dr. Disis and her groundbreaking work were celebrated at an event held at the UW Intelllectual House last week. “Important inventions that truly help people are never the work of one person,” Disis said, as she recognized the CVI and EpiThany staff in attendance. “They come from super smart people working together as a team, staying together, and following through.”
Dr. Disis has also been named an inaugural member of CoMotion’s Entrepreneurial Faculty Forum (EFF). EFF members will mentor UW faculty with entrepreneurial aspirations, help demystify and smooth out the startup formation process, and foster connections inside and outside the university.
Congratulations to Dr. Disis for these well-deserved acheivements!
