What Previous Cohorts Say About the KL2 Program

If you are still thinking about applying, here’s what other KL2 scholars have to say about their experience in the program.

“The KL2 program is where I learned to be a faculty member and the leader of a laboratory. It’s a safe space to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn from peers and mentors. I still talk regularly to many former KL2 scholars, and collaborate with several of them,” shared Cathy Yeung, KL2 2012 alumni.

“The KL2 program is the single most important reason I am successful today. Between the supportive community, the outstanding shared science, and the academic skills-development in topics like grant-writing, presentations, and managing a team, I was able to effectively launch my career as an independent investigator and program-leader. Anyone who is interested in supportive team-science should apply!” Abby Rosenberg, KL2 2014 alumni, told us.

“The KL2 does a fantastic job of setting junior investigators up for long-term success. For me, the opportunity for cross-discipline mentorship was invaluable. In science, we often operate in silos. As part of the KL2, you are exposed to scientists from diverse disciplines. Getting input on my research from senior scientists and peers not actively involved in epidemiological/public health research motivated me to think about new approaches to my work and develop more innovative grant proposals. The program was instrumental to me getting my first R01 funded. It’s a wonderful program,” said Amanda Fretts, KL2 2014 alumni.
