ITHS Research Connector, Winter 2015

February 4, 2015

Nora Disis, MD

A Message from Dr. Nora Disis, Principal Investigator

Welcome to the winter issue of ITHS Research Connector, a newsletter that highlights how ITHS works with researchers to promote the translation of scientific discovery to practice. This issue presents exciting research being done to better target insulin resistance in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), treat cognitive impairment in older adults, implement healthcare innovations into practice, and identify trauma patients needing pelvic angiograms.

You will meet Dr. Ian de Boer, who is relying heavily on the adult Clinical Research Center as he seeks to define insulin resistance and its correlates in patients with moderate-severe CKD. We will also introduce you to Dr. Linda Teri and the work of the Northwest Roybal Center for Translational Research on Aging in the area of cognitive impairment.

You will learn about an initiative between Group Health Research Institute and ITHS to better bridge the gap between scientific discovery and actual clinical practice. Finally, our Researcher Spotlight will introduce you to Dr. Ken Linnau and how he is using REDCap to coordinate an international, multi-site study attempting to better identify major trauma patients who are appropriate for pelvic angiographies.

Our Research Navigator can work directly with you to answer research questions and link you to the best resources to meet your specific research needs. Please visit our Navigator’s web page to get started.

Thank you for your interest in ITHS. We look forward to hearing from you.
